CAF releases schedule for Champions League, Confederation Cup preliminary rounds

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released its schedule for the preliminary round of its two inter-club competitions for the 2022/23 season.

Registration for the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup competitions begins on the 1st of August and ends on the 15th of that month.

The first legs of the preliminary matches in both competitions will then be played on the weekend of September 9 which is the same weekend the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season kicks off.

The second legs will then be played on the weekend of September 16.

The GFA confirmed that it will register the two qualified clubs – Asante Kotoko SC and the MTN FA Cup winner, now confirmed to be Hearts of Oak – and their players “in the CAF Competitions Management System in accordance with the regulations of both competitions.”

Clubs will play the first legs of the second preliminary round on the weekend of October 7 with the second legs being played a fortnight later on the weekend of October 14.

The qualified teams are expected to register up to 40 players with nine players being allowed on the bench on matchdays.

The teams will also be allowed to make five substitutions during matches.
