Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is expected to present the 2022 mid-year Budget review in Parliament next week.

The Minister will move for adoption of the mid-year Budget, supplementary estimates of the government for the 2022 financial year, on Wednesday 13th July, 2022.

This was contained in the Business Statement for the 7th week ending Friday 8th July, 2022 as presented by the Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on Friday 1st July 2022.

In a related development, Ghana has formally requested the International Monetary Fund to support her economic program following a telephone conversation between President Akufo-Addo and IMF Managing Director Kristalian Georgieva conveying Ghana’s decision to apply for the support fund.

A statement issued in Accra on Friday 1 July 2022 and signed by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the engagement with the IMF will seek to provide a balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and recently, the Russia-Ukraine crises.

Ghana is a member of the IMF and recently received US$1 billion for its COVID response program.

The government expects the IMF support to boost the funding sources needed to execute its economic program and is expected the capital markets and friendly sovereign countries may also contribute to the program.

Apart from the appearance of the Finance Minister, the House has also scheduled the Minister for National Security, Mr. Kan Dapaah, to brief the House at a close sitting on Thursday 7th July on matters pertaining to the security of the state.

The briefing, according to the Majority leader, is imperative having regard to the recent spate of terrorist attacks within the West African sub-region.

The Business Committee has also scheduled the Minister responsible for the National Identification Authority (NIA), Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, to brief the House on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, on the challenges the Authority is facing regarding the printing and issuance of the ECOWAS Identity Card also known as the Ghana Card to the citizenry.

Some members have raised concerns about their constituencies having difficulties in registering for the Ghana Card, the only source document for the SIM Card Registration, which is set to end on July 31st.
