The family of former President John Evans Atta Mills is demanding Mr. Koku Anyidoho and the Coastal Development Authority (CoDA) to produce the remains of the former President after supervising the ‘desecration’ of his tomb.

The family questioned whether the Atta Mills Institute founder could carry out such monumental activity at the tomb of the former President without the knowledge or consent of the family.

Brother to the late President, Samuel Atta Mills who addressed the media in Parliament on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, questioned the kind of rituals that we carried out before the tomb was opened.

He said they had gone to Asomdwee Park to prepare for the 10th Anniversary of the former President’s demise only to discover the tomb had been raised down and casket containing his remains missing.

He said, “Now that you have gone to touch the tomb, is the body still in that grave. What did you put in the grave and what kind of rituals did you perform over there.”

“Why would you go and touch the grave without informing the family and who has the body now? That is a question that I want to ask.”

Samuel Atta Mills, Member of Parliament for Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem Constituency in the Central Region questioned under whose authority the CDA and the Atta Mills Institute carried out ‘this insult to the family.’

“Why do you always want to make us go through grief every time. You allow someone like Koku Anyidoho, this buffoon working with this so-called Atta Mills Institute to go and touch this grave without informing our family head.”

“This is a former President. Why would the government allow this to happen? This is an insult to us the Akans and an insult to the nation.”

“So now the government allows an NGO to run Asomdwee Park. The government allows an NGO and the CDA to handle the remains of President John Evans Atta Mills? Why don’t we send another NGO to go and run the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum?”

John Evans Atta Mills, he said, is not the only President who has passed away in Ghana and that other Presidents have passed and questioned whether other NGOs would be ‘contracted’ to manage their graves too.

He demanded the government returns the mortal remains of the former President and wondered why National Security should even allow such desecration of a former President’s tomb to happen.

Samuel Atta Mills called on the IGP, George Akuffo Dampare, as a former ADC to the former President Mills not to sit aloof for a private person to destroy the grave.

He warned President Akufo-Addo that he will not live forever because he is President and added, “If they are doing it to President Atta Mills, your time will come.”
