Tongues are wagging hours after President Akufo-Addo dismissed  the Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Colonel (Rtd.) Kwadwo Damoah.

President Akufo-Addo on Monday fired Col. Damoah days after the Office of the Special Prosecutor cited him in corruption-related acts involving Labianca Company Limited, a frozen foods company.

Though Col. Damoah distanced himself from the wrongdoing, the Special Prosecutor found that he gave his “tacit approval”.

But there is a ground swell of concern wondering if the supposed beneficiary and the Council of State member, Eunice Jacqueline Buah Asomah-Hinneh, the CEO of the Company and in whose favor Col. Damoah exercised his discretion would not be sacked.

Labianca admitted her guilt and  subsequently refunded the  money to GRA.

The Special Prosecutor has since recovered GH¢ 1 million from Labianca.

Already, anti-graft campaigners are on a sustained push for the resignation of Mrs. Asomah-Hinneh at least as member of the Council of State.

According to them, Mrs. Asomah-Hinneh should not still be in office as a Council of State Member.

Mrs. Asomah-Hinneh, who owns Labianca Company and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has been accused of allegedly using her position to get a favourable decision from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Article 89 (6) of the 1992 Constitution states that the appointment of a Member of the Council of State may be terminated by the President on grounds of stated misbehavior.
