Electrical practitioners have been cautioned to desist from any form of illegal connections in an attempt to provide temporary relief to affected customers of the Ghana Electricity Company (ECG) who have not been able to purchase power.

The leadership of the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) that made the call acknowledged the difficulties that customers of ECG are going through, which is having a toll on their households and businesses.

The leadership, however, warned turning to illegal connections for relief contravenes rule 5 of the LI 1816 and also will cause a huge revenue loss to the ECG.

“We are reliably informed that the ECG is working assiduously to restore normalcy. It is in this light, that the leadership of GECA is appealing to its members and all electrical practitioners to desist from any form of illegal connections in an attempt to provide temporary relief to affected customers as that would be in contravention with rule 5 of the LI 1816 and huge revenue loss to ECG.”

“We also entreat the ECG to expedite action at resolving the problem and take appropriate steps to prevent this unfortunate situation from recurring in the future,” a statement by GECA said.
