The House of Parliament has cancelled sitting for tomorrow Friday 11th June 2021 to enable members travel to their constituencies to participate in the Green Ghana campaign.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has designated June 11 as Green Ghana Day during which some five million trees are expected to be planted across the country by Ghanaians of all walks of life.
Speaker of Parliament, Alban SK Bagbin, entreated members of the House to make it a point to fully participate in the Green Ghana Day exercise tomorrow.
The House of Parliament, he said, is therefore absorbing the travel expenses of members to enable them journey to their various constituencies to lead the tree planting exercise.
He said, “The Clerk to Parliament is hereby directed to provide the cost of travel in and out for MPs to participate in the exercise.”
“I want to, on behalf of Parliament and on my part, pledge our collective support for the Green Ghana Day.”
“I personally will be leading the team in Parliament to plant trees in the precinct of Parliament tomorrow.”
“Since my constituency is the whole of Ghana I will lead the exercise to green the Enclave of Parliament.”
“Hon members, Green Ghana let’s go planting. God actually bequeath to us the Garden of Eden and you all recall the green flora and fauna and the beauty of the Garden of Eden.”
“By our actions and inactions, we have plundered the whole garden. Please, it behooves on us to recapture the Garden of Eden even if not for today’s generation, for generations unborn. Once again Green Ghana, let’s go planting.”
