THE LORD REWARDED ME

Scripture Reading: Psalm 18

The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God. Psalm 18:20–21

David experienced moments of distress and despair in his lifetime and when the Lord rescued him out of those moments, he did not come out empty-handed. The Lord rewarded him for all he had been through. David outlined the rewards of Lord:

• God rewarded him according to his righteousness. Living right is always a fulfilling and rewarding experience. David’s calamities were not consequences of any wrongdoing or illicit activity that he perpetrated. If he had committed any crime or injustice, then the distress and despair he experienced would have been the consequences of his actions. God delivered David because of his righteousness. Continue to walk in righteousness and be determined to honour the Lord in all your dealings.

In the New Testament, our righteousness is in Christ. We are who we are because of what Christ has done for us. Because of that, we cannot hold up our good deeds to God as the basis for our blessing. Instead, we must hold up what Christ Jesus has done for us as the basis for every blessing we receive.

• God recompensed him. To recompense is to compensate a person for a loss or harm they have suffered. God’s compensation package for David was because of his integrity and everything David had lost; God gave it all back to him. If David’s hands were not clean, he would not have been compensated for the calamity that he had experienced.

God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. If we seek Him in faith, we will find Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you are the God who rewards. I receive all that you have given me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
