Deputy Minister for Water Resource and Sanitation, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia is backing former President John Mahama’s call for President Akufo-Addo to downsize his government.

According to him, the call is not a bad idea since President Akufo-Addo himself reduced the number of his minister in the second term of his administration.

“It is not a bad idea. If he takes me off as minister as part of the measures I don’t have a problem with that. So I don’t have a problem if he decides to reduce the number of ministers.”

“But we have to admit that he had a higher number than this. He had 120 ministers and now he has reduced it to less than 100,” the Member of Parliament for Sisala East reiterated.

Former President John Mahama during his public lecture on the Ghanaian economy on Thursday at UPSA in Accra called on President Akufo-Addo to reduce the size of his government saying it’s irresponsible on his part to keep that big-size government.

Speaking on Starr FM, the Deputy Minister also indicated that the public funding of the National Cathedral was inappropriate.

“I agree because privately all of us can contribute, I should be willing to contribute because it will be a good national asset and a facility to have in the country. So if all of us can consciously contribute privately to support the team to build it is fine.

“But for now we need to invest our resources in productive areas that will generate jobs and will bring back the economy to life,” Mr. Issahaku Chinnia added.
