The Achimota District Court has fined the Okaikwei North Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Boye Laryea for road traffic offense.
The police had hauled the MCE before the court for crossing the amber at Okponglo a suburb of Accra because of a failed break.
The MCE was arrested Sunday morning by police officers for what they say is “neglect of traffic signal’.
Appear in court Monday morning, Honourable Laryea was represented by his lawyer Jah Josiah.
*This is because the court could not start proceedings at the scheduled 9 AM billed for the case to be heard.*
*Having waited for hours, the MCE in view of his work schedule for Mondays and other administrative duties dash off to office to keep the work of the Assembly on course.*
The Trial judge however convicted Honourable Laryea to a fine of GH ₵1,800 or in default serve a twenty day jail term to serve as a deterrent to others.
He told the court that his client who was not present has admitted the offense and does not intend to waste the time of the court and state resources.
According to Mr. Joshia, the incident is unfortunate.
Counsel Josiah indicated that his client is a first offender and urged the court to deal leniently with him.
