The minority in Parliament is accusing the government of deliberately running down the Saglemi Housing Project in order to pawn it off to cronies.

According to the Caucus, the project has not failed as asserted by the Minister for Works and Housing Francis Asenso-Boakye and warned players in the private sector against investing in the abandoned Saglemi affordable housing project.

The Minority questioned how a project that was described by former Minister for Works and Housing Ministry, Atta Akyea, as an asset to the state suddenly become a failure.

Mr. Francis Asenso Boakye has announced the government’s decision to sell off the project, which has been abandoned since 2017, to a private developer.

Ranking member for the committee on works and housing in Parliament Vincent Oppong Asamoah argued the project was meant to offer affordable housing to Ghanaians and must remain the same.

He was addressing the media on Tuesday, November 22 after touring the project site.

He argued the Nana Addo administration has failed Ghanaians by allowing such an investment to go to waste with thieves stripping the houses of all fittings worth millions of Ghana cedis.

“They refer to this project as a failed project. And the minority we don’t believe that this is a project that’s failed rather we’ve had a failed government that decided not to continue with the project that was bequeathed to them,” he said.

MP for Nkoranza South, Emmanuel Agyekum lamented the situation and indicated this is not how the country should go.

“Trust me I can prophesy to you today, that this is going to be sold to a family member, this is going to be sold to a friend, this is going to be sold to a business that is close to these guys in power who are saying it’s a failed project,” he contended.
