Haruna Iddrisu has issued a terse warning to Ministers to appear in person to move the Motion for approval of the budgetary allocations of their respective ministries.
The Minority group, he warned, will not approve the allocation of any Minister who will not be present in Parliament to lead their ministries in this important exercise.
He cautioned Ministers to take the House seriously and be present and rise from their seats to move the motion to ask for budgetary allocation.
The Minority leader issued the warning on Thursday 1st December, 2022 during presentation of the Business Statement for next week.
He said, “Only Ministers so appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to oversee the sectors must rise on their seats to move the motion to ask for budgetary allocation and approval by this House. Failure to do so, and leader you are assured that we will stand down a number of those motions.”
The Minority leader indicated if the allocation for the Health Ministry comes to the floor without Agenda 111 accountability, the budget will suffer, and stressed the group will hold the government accountable.
“We intend to strengthen oversight and we will do so standing here. So ministers, if you think you can take the Majority leader for granted because he’s aspiring to go higher and he is being undermined from his back,” he added.
Mr. Haruna Iddrisu urged the Speaker not to protect or save anyone and stressed that if ministers are not interested in money to work, the Minority will help them to sit at home.
Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu concurred with the Minority leader and stressed Ministers should not only lead the consideration of their budget estimates but must also be present and lead discussions at the committee level.
He urged ministers to take a cue and once the referrals of the estimates go to the committees, they should avail themselves to enable the processes to go on smoothly.
