The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has denied allegations of nepotism made against the chief executive officer of the state institution.
In a statement issued yesterday to debunk the claims, which have been circulating on the internet, COCOBOD vehemently denied any relations between its Chief Executive, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, and one Joseph Seth Aidoo Junior, as mentioned in the document in relation to the Agri-Plus Limited.
COCOBOD’s statement also debunked all assertions of wrongdoing levelled against them in their decision to sole source ‘Transform Akate’ from Agri-Plus Horizon Farm Limited.
The statement explained that the decision to sole source insecticides and other chemicals is based on the board’s need for specific purposes.
The statement further stated that COCOBOD only procures insecticides or chemicals that have been tested and approved by the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG).
The statement continued, “It should, therefore, be noted that different insecticides have different active ingredients (the killing agent), different levels of concentration of active, different rates of application per hectare of cocoa and different manufacturing sources.
“Some products,” the statement explained, “have systemic effect while others take effect on contact with the insect. Some products are also formulated as cocktails and have both systemic and contact properties combined.
The statement explained, therefore, that any company that holds the CRIG certificate for a particular product has proprietary right in a product, thus allowing COCOBOD to procure the product from that source only.
