‘Aduro no so’ is not a new concept in NPP; Akufo-Addo benefited from it – Ayikoi Otoo to delegates

Former Attorney General and a member of the Alan Kyerematen campaign, Ayikoi Otoo, has argued the concept of ‘Aduro No So’ is a feature of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The concept, he said, was born out of a conservative mindset of the party, which played significant in the campaign of those who led the party in the past.

According to him, both Presidents Kufuor and Akufo Addo benefited from the party’s conservative orientation, which made their candidacies clear and concise for the NPP delegates during their respective nomination contests.

Speaking during the campaign tour of the Greater Accra Region by the Alan team, Mr. Ayikoi Otoo reminded the NPP delegates that Mr. Kyerematen was a founding member of the party and the President of the Young Executives Forum, which played a crucial role in providing funding during the party’s early stages.

He averred that as a conservative party that values loyalty, longevity, and commitment, it is essential to consider these qualities when selecting the party’s presidential candidate

“The choices of Kufuor and Akufo Addo were not mere coincidences. They were a result of the NPP’s conservative disposition, which rewards long-serving officials,” he said.

He highlighted how the NPP stood by Kufuor after the 1996 national election loss and voted for him again in 1998 as the presidential candidate, ultimately leading to his victory in the 2000 general elections.

Similarly, despite the NPP’s defeats in the 2008 and 2012 national elections, they retained Akufo Addo as their presidential candidate in the 2016 elections, which he overwhelmingly won.

“So the concept of “Aduro No So” (“the time has come for you”) was born out of this conservative mindset and played a significant role in Nana Addo’s victorious campaign in 2016.

“As for the current sitting President, the phrase transformed into “Ye Nim Nana firi Tete,” loosely translated as “we have known Nana from a long distance.”

He urged the delegates to therefore keep the tradition of the party alive the elect Alan Kyerematen to lead the NPP for the 2024 elections.
