Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), officially launched his campaign in Accra on Tuesday under the theme of ‘New Dawn.’

During the launch, Mr. Agyepong outlined his “new dawn” agenda, envisioning an economically robust and resilient country that is fiscally responsible, socially cohesive, and fully accountable to its citizens.

The campaign aims to usher in a “new dawn of astute political leadership with a clear vision and plan,” inspiring hope in the youth and rekindling faith among all Ghanaians.

One of the key pillars of his agenda is running a lean downsized government with a total of 54 ministers.

Highlighting the need for judicial reforms, Mr. Agyepong stated, “Stakeholder consultations would be undertaken to introduce an upper limit of nine judges on the Supreme Court and possibly remove the retirement age of 70, allowing Supreme Court judges to serve until they are unable to perform.”

Emphasizing the importance of law and order, discipline, and compliance, he expressed his commitment to enforcing these principles. Additionally, Mr. Agyepong stressed the need to cut waste in the public sector, restore meritocracy and professionalism, and focus on urban regeneration and renewal. He also pledged to revive the interest of Ghanaians in entertainment and sports.

In a call for leadership regeneration, Mr. Agyepong asserted, “Ghana needs a lease of new life and energy. We cannot afford to put forward those who led the country in its current economic crisis and expect Ghanaians to embrace them in the upcoming 2024 elections.”

He urged delegates of the party to choose a new face and leader who could reconnect with the base and regain the trust of Ghanaians.

Mr. Agyepong stressed the importance of a clean break from the status quo and offered hope for a new beginning.

In a passionate plea to the delegates, he warned against allowing materialism to dominate the political space, stating, “The fight for the soul of the country is in its critical stages, and your decision during the upcoming primaries will have long-lasting effects.
