The Minority in Parliament has accused Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, of neglecting his duties within the lawmaking chamber.

His focus, the caucus contends, is on prosecuting political opponents rather than actively participating in legislative matters.

During a session in Parliament last Friday, Minority Chief Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza, raised concerns regarding the alleged failure of certain ministers, including the Attorney General, to attend to the House when their presence was required.

The Minority MPs claimed that the Attorney General’s primary concern seemed to be ensuring the imprisonment of their political opponents through prosecution, rather than actively shepherding bills from his Ministry.

However, in response to the Minority’s accusations, Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, argued that blame should also be shared by the Minority.

He stated the Minority MPs were conspicuously absent from the House during the previous day’s sitting when ministers were present to answer questions.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin noted, “Yesterday, for instance, all the Ministers were here to answer questions. Unfortunately, the Minority side was absent for reasons best known to them.”

The Minority Whip, however, emphasized that government officials, including the Attorney General, should not only focus on prosecuting cases in the law courts but should also actively engage in parliamentary proceedings.
