Medeama Sporting Club Administrator, Patrick Akoto, says the club’s home game in the first round of the 2023-2023 CAF Champions League campaign will be held at the Cape Coast Stadium.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports as the Tarkwa based club preps to compete in Africa’s premier club competition for the first time in its history.

Medeama competed in the CAF Confederation Cup but missed out on progressing to the quarterfinal stage. However, the Mauve and Yellow club won the BetPawa Ghana Premier League to qualify to the Champions League.

Medeama’s TNA Stadium is in the final phase of construction but won’t be ready to host the contest; according to Patrick Akoto, the 10,000 seater edifice will be ready to host subsequent games in the competition should Medeama make a deep run.

Medeama Administrator Patrick Akoto

“We are happy to bring Champions League football to Tarkwa. It’s just unfortunate that we won’t be able to play the first match in Tarkwa due to the fact that the timeline for the completion of the facility doesn’t tally with the start of the competition.

Hopefully, if we are able to negotiate our way through the first match, hopefully we will be able to return home and play the subsequent games.”
