Minister Tightens Enforcement Of COVID Safety Protocols In Greater Accra Region

The Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey has directed that mandatory adherence to all COVID-19 Safety protocols at all events.

These protocols the Minister said must be adhered to at all times, in any public place and space in the region.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed in Accra by Mr. Quartey.

Below is the full statement

ENFORCEMENT OF COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS IN THE GREATER ACCRA REGION

In compliance with H. E. the President’s update N0. 26 on COVID-19 Safety Protocols and the increasing number of cases in the region, the Greater Accra Regional Minister as Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the Regional Public Health Emergency Management Committee in collaboration with the Regional Police Command and the Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service directs that:

a. There should be mandatory adherence to all COVID-19 Safety protocols at all events, at all times, in any public place and space in the region.

b. All Security Councils in the various Assemblies should embark on routine checks at public places i.e. schools, lorry stations, markets especially in trotros to ensure that there is strict compliances.

c. All Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies should collaborate with their respective Police Commanders and other security apparatus in ensuring that all activities associated with funerals are held in open airs spaces and it should not exceed a duration of two (2) hours.

d. All Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies should with immediate effect reactivate their District Public Health Emergency Management Committees in the fight against the pandemic.

e. All Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) should as a matter of urgency start their sensitization programs on COVID-19 and its safety protocols as a wakeup call for all.

f. MMDAs should also ensure that individuals or group of persons who breech these protocols are arrested, fined or prosecuted according to the law to serve as deterrent to others.

The Regional Coordinating Council would continue to play its supervisory role with random spot checks on all these public bans.

However, we appeal to our revered traditional, political, religious and opinion leaders to be at the forefront of this drive and campaign in order to curtail this steep increases of COVID-19 case in the Region.
