Former President John Dramani Mahama has lauded the creativity, enterprise, and passion of Ghana’s youth, emphasizing their crucial role as the driving force behind positive change and innovation.
The former president underscored the significance of empowering young people, both locally and globally, to shape a brighter future.
In a heartfelt message on the occasion of International Youth Day, Mahama acknowledged the historical contributions of Ghana’s youth to the nation’s development and highlighted the need for immediate action to address challenges such as rising unemployment, soaring living costs, and limited opportunities.
Mahama, who leads the National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed his party’s commitment to reversing the current situation by fostering a generation of skilled and empowered youth.
He stressed the importance of equipping young people with the necessary knowledge and entrepreneurial skills for sustainable growth.
“A new NDC administration will work urgently to equip our youth with the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills needed for a sustainable future,” Mahama asserted. He further elaborated on the party’s plans to introduce a 24-hour economy, complete with incentives and tax breaks for manufacturers willing to create more employment opportunities by operating additional shifts.
Addressing concerns about the economic environment, Mahama stated, “We will work to ease the burden of taxes imposed by this NPP administration on Ghanaian businesses and investors, which has robbed Ghana of its envious position as one of Africa’s leading destinations for investment.” This commitment underlines the NDC’s dedication to revitalizing Ghana’s investment climate and economic prospects.
Highlighting the NDC’s policy priorities, Mahama emphasized the party’s intention to focus on maximizing the potential of agriculture and agribusiness. Additionally, he pledged to provide essential social and IT infrastructure to stimulate economic growth and development.
“Our policy priorities will imbue our young people with the ‘knowledge, abilities, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society’ — the critical Green Skills our youth need to advance a sustainable world,” Mahama affirmed.
Concluding his message, Mahama emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in building the desired future for Ghana. “People matter, and by working together, we will build the Ghana we want and put the smiles back on the faces of our young people,” he remarked.
