Minority Whip, Governs Kwame Agbodza has utilized provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act of 2019 to seek details about the ongoing construction of the new Bank of Ghana headquarters at Ridge.

The Adaklu MP’s inquiry covers aspects such as the project’s procurement processes, the identities of consultants and managers, financing arrangements, construction costs, and land procurement specifics.

In an official communication directed to the relevant authorities by Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central on behalf of the Adaklu MP, he articulated his request, stating, “I am instructed by Ing. Kwame Governs Agbodza, the representative of the Adaklu constituency and Chief Whip of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in the Parliament of Ghana (Minority Chief Whip) to write to you to request for the following information…”

He proceeded to outline his queries:

  1. Procurement Process and Contractors: Agbodza sought insights into the procurement processes linked to the construction of the Bank of Ghana’s new headquarters. He specifically requested details about the contractors, consultants, and project managers involved in the project.
  2. Financing Arrangements: The MP inquired about the financial structure underpinning the construction endeavour, seeking a comprehensive understanding of the financing arrangements for the new headquarters building.
  3. Construction Details: Agbodza sought information about the costs, scope of works, bill of quantities, and projected start and completion dates for the ongoing construction of the Bank of Ghana’s headquarters.
  4. Land Procurement: The MP’s inquiry extended to the land on which the new headquarters is being built. He requested information about how the land was procured, the associated price or arrangement, and the entity from which the land was acquired.

Mahama Ayariga reinforced the query by noting, “Kindly provide information within 7 working days from the date of this letter.”

Agbodza’s move to seek transparency and accountability in the construction of the Bank of Ghana’s new headquarters aligns with the principles of the Right to Information Act, which was enacted to promote openness in governance and facilitate public access to information.

The Bank of Ghana is expected to provide a timely and comprehensive response to Agbodza’s inquiries, in line with the law.
