The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has indicated the proposed price adjustment for renal dialysis services is still pending review and approval.
Any revised fees, the hospital management said, would only be implemented after receiving due parliamentary approval through the Ministry of Health.
This follows a backlash from Ghanaians after Korle Bu announced a proposed increase in the cost of renal dialysis services by about 100% from GH¢380.00 to GH¢765.42.
In a release issued on Wednesday, the hospital assured the general public and patients that they are fully aware of the challenges faced by renal dialysis patients.
The Hospital expressed its commitment to continue collaborating with stakeholders and philanthropic organizations to help subsidize dialysis reagents and services for the benefit of patients.
“We will continue, as we have done over the years, to collaborate with stakeholders and philanthropists to help subsidize dialysis reagents and services for the treatment of many patients.”
“An outstanding example of this is the First Sky Group which has provided free Dialysis services over the past eight years, with more than 200 patients benefiting yearly; a gesture that has tremendously improved the survival rate and quality of life of our renal patients,” the statement said.
Management affirmed they would prioritize the welfare of renal patients in all discussions and will welcome support from individuals and organizations with a public-spirited commitment to this cause.
It assured that until parliamentary approval is granted for any fee adjustments, the hospital will maintain the existing pricing structure for dialysis services.
