The Managing Director of the National Investment Bank (NIB), Mr. Samuel Sarpong, has taken legal action against Isaac Adongo, a Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central in the Upper East Region for defamation.
Through his legal representatives, S&S Legal, Mr. Sarpong has sent a notice to Adongo, demanding an apology and retraction for defamatory comments made during an interview on Joy FM.
In the notice letter, Mr. Sarpong’s lawyers assert that during the interview, Adongo made misleading and damaging statements about Mr. Sarpong’s management of NIB.
Adongo alleged that Mr. Sarpong had managed the bank remotely from Canada via Zoom for almost a year, implying mismanagement and incompetence.
The demand letter stated, “Our client asserts that you repeatedly made all the above-mentioned statements during the ‘Top Story’ broadcast, which were also streamed on Joy 99.7 FM social media platforms and subsequently published on JoyOnline under the heading ‘NIB MD managed bank from Canada via Zoom for close to a year – Isaac Adongo.'”
The lawyers argue that these statements were not only false but also malicious, scandalous, and without any basis in truth.
They emphasize that Adongo’s comments have damaged Mr. Sarpong’s reputation in the international business and finance community and have caused considerable harm to his character and standing in his profession.
The legal notice demands that Adongo issues a public statement of retraction to the Managing Director and the staff and management of NIB.
Additionally, Adongo is required to issue a formal apology to Mr. Sarpong, which should be published on the same platforms where the defamatory remarks were made.
Adongo has been given forty-eight hours to comply with these demands, failing which further legal action may be pursued.
