A viral video featuring Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency and aspiring NPP presidential candidate, has ignited a storm of controversy and debate across social media platforms.

In the video, Agyapong appears to criticize the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of rampant corruption.

However, the Assin North MP has vehemently denied these accusations, calling the video a “complete and unfortunate misrepresentation” of his true sentiments.

The video, which surfaced on social media, purportedly captures Agyapong addressing a private gathering of NPP communicators in Kumasi.

In response to the video, Ken Agyapong clarified the context of his statements, emphasizing that his words were taken out of context.

He explained that he was expressing frustration at the opposition’s propaganda tactics and media misrepresentation.

He stated, “I wish to stress the point that the offending video was culled from a private meeting with some communicators in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, over the weekend, and edited to purposefully create disaffection towards me, Ken Ohene Agyapong, and to bring the Akufo-Addo government into disrepute.”

He further elaborated on his original message, saying, “I lamented the fact that our communicators were letting the party down and that every government would have its fair share of corruption cases, especially in 8 years, but because of one or two bad cases which the authorities were handling and in a transparent manner as it should be, we have, sadly, allowed the ruthless opposition propaganda machinery, the mass media, and the social media to create the deadly impression that NPP is looting as if there is no tomorrow, including allegations of stashing funds abroad.”

He underscored his unwavering commitment to the NPP, praising President Akufo-Addo’s efforts in combating corruption through institutional reforms.

“I am fully aware of the commitment shown by President Akufo-Addo, in deeds and institutional reforms, in combatting the canker of corruption in Ghana and the challenges that entail,” he stated.

Despite the controversy, Agyapong affirmed his dedication to the party’s cause, expressing his intent to lead the NPP in their bid for victory against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming elections.

“I remain a committed member of our great Party and hope to lead us in our quest to break the eight’, as together, we face John Mahama and the NDC for the SHOWDOWN on December 7, 2024,” he stated.
