The release states that two officers sustained gunshot wounds and were swiftly transported to the hospital. One of the officers was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“The police, on 9 October 2023, arrested two suspects for preparation to commit robbery and opening fire on police officers at Ejura in the Ashanti Region,” the statement said.

“The identified suspects, Alhaji Wahab Suleiman and Ibrahim Abubakari, along with another accomplice who is currently on the run, engaged in a shootout with officers who were on a mission to prevent a planned robbery attack on a mobile money vendor in Ejura.

“During this confrontation, two officers suffered gunshot wounds and were immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention. Regrettably, one of the officers, identified as Nº 42250 General Sergeant Ahmed Kamal, lost his life,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the two robbers, who also sustained gunshot wounds, have been apprehended, and an accomplice is being pursued.

“The police have retrieved several items at the scene, including two SB shotguns, one pump-action gun, six live BB cartridges, and one used BB cartridge,” the release added.
