Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged he will not disappoint as he leads the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2024 general election.
Speaking at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 4, after his official declaration as the NPP flagbearer, Bawumia emphasized his dedication to serving Ghana to the best of his ability.
“I have dedicated my life to give back and to serve Ghana after all the opportunities have been given,” Vice President Bawumia said, assuring the nation of his commitment to his vision and priorities for Ghana.
He emphasized his intention to govern independently, guided by divine intervention.
“My vision is to build an inclusive, food self-sufficient, data-driven, and systems-based nation that will actively participate in the global digital revolution, addressing our challenges and ushering us into a golden age of benefitting from our natural resources,” he stated.
The newly elected flagbearer of the NPP further outlined his goal of leading a nation that nurtures the talents of its youth, creating opportunities for good jobs with fair compensation, and ensuring sustainable growth through macroeconomic discipline.
The NPP flagbearer acknowledged the creativity and talents of the Ghanaian youth in various sectors.
He also addressed technocrats, inviting them to join Ghana’s political space, which has been dominated by career politicians for centuries.
The NPP, he said, has a place for them and invited everyone to join the party on this journey of possibilities.
Dr. Bawumia stated that he has spent the last seven years assisting President Akufo-Addo in delivering on many demands of Ghanaians, creating more opportunities for the youth, and improving the well-being of people.
However, despite the achievements, the unforeseen global economic downturn of the past three years derailed the significant economic gains and impact the government made between 2017 and 2021.
He expressed optimism that the remarkable sacrifices, patience, and confidence of Ghanaians, coupled with his core values of integrity, honesty, discipline, hard work, and inclusivity, will lead the nation to full economic recovery when he is elected president.
The NPP, he said, is the best option for the progress and prosperity of Ghana, and charged all members to be ambassadors of the party, telling the NPP story in their daily lives and on the public stage at every opportunity.
