Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to the Greater Accra Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their unwavering support and commitment to defending his strong and incorruptible character.

Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, in a statement, conveyed the appreciation of the former President to the youth who gathered at the Cantonments office to show solidarity in the face of a “misguided attempt” by elements sponsored by the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to picket around the office.

“Ayekoo to the young people, including women, who converged at the Cantonments office on Thursday to solidarize with John Mahama,” the statement read.

Members of the Youth Wing had gathered at the former President’s office in response to the announcement by Fixing the Country Movement led by Owusu Bempah to demonstrate at the offices of Mr. Mahama over the Airbus scandal.

Bempah, however, beat a hasty retreat after National Security decided to intervene and stop the advertised picketing.

Joyce Bawah Mogtari criticized the attempted picketing as a diversion from critical issues facing Ghanaians.

She said, “It is most regrettable that amid the excruciating hardship and suffering brought upon Ghanaians by the NPP government, they would rather find it necessary to dabble in bizarre and inexplicable antics over a so-called Airbus matter.”

She emphasized that Mr. Mahama has no questions to answer regarding the Airbus matter, which she claimed has long been laid to rest.

She pointed out that neither the UK nor US authorities have accused or investigated him for any wrongdoing related to the Airbus case.

“It must be placed on record that Mr. Mahama has never been accused of, or investigated for, any involvement or wrongdoing of any sort by either the UK or US authorities in relation to Airbus,” the statement clarified.

The Special Aide highlighted the discontinuation of the Airbus case by the Serious Fraud Office of the United Kingdom due to a lack of evidence.

She asserted that there has been no breach of Ghana’s procurement laws in the processes leading to the purchase of the aircraft.

She expressed the former President’s commitment to remain focused on engaging the people of Ghana on his plans to revitalize the economy and carry out governance reforms.

“Mr. Mahama will obviously not be distracted by the NPP or any political shenanigans. He remains focused on engaging the people of Ghana on his plans to revitalize the economy to create more opportunities and decent well-paying jobs in a 24-hour economy for the youth and the Ghanaian people,” she added.
