The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Ophelia Mensah Hayford, is pondering legal action against John Bambir, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communicator in the constituency.

Bambir has been accused of making defamatory statements against the MP and the government through various social media posts.

In his online comments, Bambir alleged that the government, without consulting the people of Mfantseman, had entered into a Lithium Contract with Barari DV Ghana Limited, a foreign company.

Additionally, he claimed that the MP orchestrated the removal of NDC billboards during the election campaign, questioned her resignation as a vice chairman of the NPP, and raised concerns about her relationship with Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, another MP. Furthermore, Bambir accused Hayford of falsely presenting herself as a lawyer.

Hon. Ophelia Hayford, in a statement released on Tuesday, vehemently refuted the claims and provided her position on the claims.

She clarified that the Lithium Contract was a transparent and beneficial agreement for Mfantseman residents, with the Lease Agreement accessible to the public.

She said, “The Lithium Contract is a transparent and beneficial deal for the people of Mfantseman, with the Lease Agreement publicly available for anyone to read,” stated MP Ophelia Hayford.”

She also denied instructing the removal of any billboards, stating, “I never instructed anyone to remove billboards, and I respect the democratic rights of all parties.”

Regarding her resignation as vice chairperson, Ophelia Hayford asserted it was a personal decision, and that she maintained a positive relationship with Hon. Agyapong.

The Mfantseman MP clarified that she never portrayed herself as a lawyer but as a law student pursuing further legal education.

Expressing her disappointment, the MP addressed Bambir’s mention of her late husband, deeming it a painful and personal matter. She stressed her lack of control over the legal proceedings while expressing prayers for justice and peace.

In a strong warning to Bambir, Ophelia Hayford demanded an apology and retraction of his statements or face legal consequences. She reassured the people of Mfantseman of her unwavering commitment to serving them.
