The Management of Ghana Black Stars are under heavy public criticism on social Media for Camping in South Africa ahead of the 2023 AFCON Tournament to be host by Neigboring Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars will begin a ten-day camping in Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday December 31, 2023 to prepare for the battle ahead with hopes of ending Ghana’s over 40-year trophy drought.
The Black Stars would face Botswana in Johannesburg on Monday, January 8, 2024, before flying to Abidjan two days later for the continent’s biggest event.
The friendly encounte would also be an opportunity for Coach Chris Hughton to assess his team as they take on other top giants in the tournament.
Ghana is in Group B with Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
The four-time champions would open their campaign against Cape Verde after which they would take on Egypt and Mozambique.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for Saturday, January 13 to Sunday, February 11, 2024.
The leadership of the Team has been criticized for being wasteful with public funds and have questioned the real benefit of camping South Africa which has different weather condition from Ivory Coast the host country.
One fan wrote ‘How close is the weather condition between SA and Divoivire????,Because Ghana and the host country,Ivory Coast has the same climatic conditions”.
Another person wrote: Really? Are we serious at all? Couldn’t we use the money to be spent on the SA trip to rehabilitate any of the stadiums and train there?

Cameroon will host their camping in Saudi Arabia, Gambia will pith theirs in two countries- Saudi Arabia and Morocco, Algeria will camp in Togo, Mali will camp in Mali, DR Congo will travel to Abu Dhabi (UAE), Burkina Faso will also travel to Abu Dhabi (UAE), Nigeria will travel to Dubai (UAE)
