The Special Prosecutor has been fingered in direct political interference following the arrest of parliamentary aspirant Kofi Ofosu Nkansah for the Asante Akyem Central constituency.

The arrest came after a complaint filed by his competitor and current Member of Parliament, Kwame Ayimadu.

Sources close to the incident reveal that officials from the Special Prosecutor’s Office detained the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) solely based on an allegation made by his political opponent in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.

According to Felix Amakye, the Asante Akyem Constituency Secretary of the NPP, the arrest stems from envy and jealousy.

He explained that the MP, Ayimadu, reportedly offered GH¢300 to delegates, while Mr. Ofosu Nkansah provided a Christmas package of GH¢500 to the same delegates.

Amakye denounced the actions, labeling them as “pure interference and intimidation” by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

Amakye further lamented, “What is happening is signs of envy and jealousy. The MP offered 300 Cedis to the delegates, and his competitor, who knows the challenges of his people, decided to assist us with 500 Cedis each. Why do you turn around to report him to the OSP when there is no evidence of wrongdoing?”

The situation has raised concerns about the misuse of state agencies for political purposes, particularly in the internal politics of the NPP parliamentary primaries.

Ayimadu, who is allegedly obstructing the passage of the anti-gay bill in parliament, is believed to be employing various tactics to undermine Nkansah, who has garnered significant support in the constituency.
