The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has stated that it cannot rig the 2024 general elections for any political party.
A Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC who gave this assurance emphasized the transparency of the electoral process and the involvement of all relevant stakeholders, particularly political parties.
“The electoral process is transparent and contains all the necessary checks and participation of all stakeholders, especially the political parties, such that rigging an election in Ghana is impossible,” Samuel Tettey, stressed.
He indicated that election outcomes are determined at the polling stations, not at the EC headquarters and urged political parties to focus on training their agents to effectively observe the process.
“Parties should train their agents well to observe the process and not blame the EC for the outcome of the elections,” he advised.
Tettey underscored the importance of political parties having mechanisms to ensure accurate collation of results from all polling stations to obtain the final results for both presidential and parliamentary elections.
“All political parties have their agents at each collation centre in addition to the presence of observer groups. If a political party has participated in all the processes and been able to collate results from all the 38,622 polling stations, their results should not be different from the final results that the Electoral Commission will eventually declare,” he explained.
“There is no loophole in the electoral process outlined that will allow the Electoral Commission to rig the elections in favour of any party or candidate,” he stressed and reiterated the integrity and robustness of Ghana’s electoral system.
