The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly defended Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame against demands from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for his dismissal and prosecution.
The NDC had earlier called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to dismiss Dame, citing alleged misconduct and judicial manipulation in the ambulance trial.
The NPP dismissed the NDC’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
“If it is the firm belief of the NDC and Ato Forson that no loss had occasioned the state from his conduct, then they should remain faithful to our judicial system and cease these malicious orchestrations targeted at bastardising our judicial system to prevent him from standing trial to conclusion,” the NPP stated in a subsequent statement.
The NPP argued that the calls for Dame’s resignation are “misplaced” and “unwarranted,” asserting that the Attorney General will not resign and will continue his work with dedication.
“The AG would not resign and would continue to remain witty, resolute and focused in the delivery of his work,” they said.
The NPP accused the NDC of having a long-standing grudge against Dame since his appointment, noting multiple attempts to undermine his position.
“The records are there to show that right from his appointment as Attorney General, the NDC has spent one of the longest periods in vetting him with the hope of impeaching his appointment,” the NPP claimed.
They added that the NDC had filed a Motion for Censure to remove Dame, which failed, and held over twelve press conferences against him.
The latest allegations by Richard Jakpa, an associate of Cassiel Ato Forson, were described by the NPP as another ploy to derail the prosecution of Ato Forson.
“The latest allegation by Richard Jakpa, the 3rd accused and an associate of Cassiel Ato Forson in this botched ambulance procurement transaction, is therefore only a further ploy, contrived to curtail the prosecution of Ato Forson and smear the Attorney General’s integrity and reputation,” the NPP stated.
