Spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has posited that, under the current government, 95 percent of diseases are covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Delivering the records of the NPP administration in the Next Chapter series on Sunday, June 9, 2024, Dennis Miracles Aboagye emphasized that though there are challenges in the health sector and NHIS, the Akufo-Addo administration has ensured that 95% of illnesses are now covered by NHIS.

“There are obvious challenges with NHIS, but the achievements are phenomenal. As we speak, thanks to the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, about 95% of diseases have been brought under NHIS. These include kidney, childhood cancer (leukaemia, Wilma’s tumour), sickle cell diseases have been added” he stated.

He also stated that as recent as last week, Vice President Bawunia announced the inclusion of free dialysis treatments for children and the aged whilst the costs for those between 19 and 59 years are being subsidized.

Miracles Aboagye stated that the NDC performed abysmally with respect to the National Health Insurance Scheme.

According to him, apart from the NDC failing to fulfill their promise to make health insurance a one-time thing, they also brought the number of subscribers considerably down.

“Between 2009 and 2016, the number of subscribers on NHIS decreased from 12.5 million to 11.03 million, and this is the record of the NDC, the same people asking Ghanaians to vote for them” he stated.

He stated that between 2017 to 2023, the number of subscribers on the NHIS have jumped astronomically, as opposed to the sad state the scheme found itself in under NDC.

The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration has increased the number of subscribers from 11.03 million to 17.5 million between 2017 and 2023” he said.

He also highlighted the relief the over 300 ambulances brought into the country by the current government, has brought to the people as far as health deliveries are concerned.

Between 2004 to 2016, there were only 55 semi-functional ambulances in the country which means 1 ambulance served 524,000 people.

“As we speak, we have 307 ambulances brought into the country by this government, and this means that, 1 ambulance serves 28,000 people. This is a huge improvement in our health delivery system” Miracles stated.

He reminded Ghanaians of the introduction of medical deliveries using drones by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Zipline, he said, has contributed to the quick and effective delivery of health care services in the country.

He urged the electorate to keep faith with the ruling party and retain them in power to continue with the good policies and programs in the health and other sectors of the economy.
