Deputy Minority leader and staunch Nkrumaist, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has condemned the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s comparison of President Nana Akufo-Addo to Ghana’s founding father, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He described the comparison as “misguided and insulting,” stressing the unparalleled contributions of Dr. Nkrumah to Ghana’s independence and development.
“Dr. Nkrumah’s vision, leadership, and progress are unmatched in Ghana’s history. Any attempt to draw comparisons with Nana Addo is unjust and illogical,” Buah stated.
In a social media post, the Deputy leader emphasized Nkrumah’s significant achievements, particularly in the Ashanti region, including the establishment of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the construction of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and the expansion of the Kumasi Central Market. He noted that these developments have had a lasting impact on the region’s economy and infrastructure.
“Nkrumah’s legacy and accomplishments span across all regions in Ghana, with even Mathew Opoku Prempeh’s own Ashanti region benefiting greatly from his achievements.”
“Nationally, Dr. Nkrumah’s contributions are equally remarkable. He introduced free and compulsory primary education, established the University of Ghana and the University of Cape Coast, constructed the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, and developed various educational and technical institutes nationwide. Nkrumah was also responsible for major infrastructure projects such as the Tema Harbour and the Accra International Airport, later renamed Kotoka International Airport,” he wrote.
Kofi Buah questioned the rationale behind Opoku Prempeh’s comparison, especially in light of what he described as the current administration’s economic challenges.
He questioned Napo’s suggestion that the Akufo-Addo administration, which has plunged the country into economic turmoil through unprecedented borrowing, debt distress, stinking corruption, and ineffective leadership, is somehow superior to the transformative leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He urged Dr. Opoku Prempeh, as the energy minister, to acknowledge the significance of Kwame Nkrumah’s Akosombo Dam, which continues to generate over 30 per cent of Ghana’s electricity supply.
“NAPO must retract his statement and apologize for his attempt to mischievously rewrite history. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy is sacrosanct, and any attempt to downgrade it will be met with fierce resistance.”
“The people of Ghana will not tolerate any attempt to distort the country’s history and undermine the legacy of its founding father,” ” Buah asserted
“The undying legacy of the African of the Millennium and global icon, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, will forever be protected and not allowed to be distorted and undermined. KWAME NKRUMAH NEVER DIES,” he added.
