The Minority in Parliament has expressed satisfaction with the recent decision by the Minister for Interior to broaden the recruitment process into security services, allowing all qualified Ghanaians the opportunity to apply.

This development follows concerns raised by the minority over previous recruitment procedures.

At a press conference held on Monday, July 22, Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson announced that the recruitment exercise would be advertised across all regional capitals. However, it will be limited to those who applied during the 2021 and 2022 recruitment periods.

Ato Forson explained that the Minister for Interior has responded to concerns the Caucus raised after a media report suggested the recruitment will be limited to a backlog of applicants.

However, during a meeting in Parliament with members, Interior Minister Henry Quartey assured that the recruitment would be advertised to give every ordinary Ghanaian the opportunity to participate.

“Today the minister held a meeting with the entire house. The conclusion is that he is assuring all of us that he’s going to advertise so that the ordinary Ghanaian out there will have an opportunity to be enlisted into the security services.”

The Minority leader emphasized that the recruitment process will occur at the regional level and that no fees will be charged for those who applied for the 2021/2022 exercise.

“They are not going to charge any fee, and for those who applied and have already paid for 2021 and 2022 recruitment exercise, they are going to go through various types of assessment across the security services,” he added.

Ato Forson expressed satisfaction with the minister’s decision and emphasized the importance of equal opportunity in recruitment, regardless of political affiliation.

“We believe that going forward this will be the template where everybody will have equal opportunity to be enlisted into the security services.”

“It doesn’t matter where you come from. It should not matter which political party you belong to. If you are Ghanaian, you should deserve the opportunity to serve in the country’s security services,” he said.
