The Suame District Court has remanded seven military officers, including senior officers and a driver, in connection with the alleged assault of some civilians, leading to the death of two victims.

The officers allegedly assaulted three young men who were arrested on 28th March 2025 and taken to the 4th Infantry Battalion barracks.

Two of them were later found dead in a bush at Danyame, a suburb of Kumasi.

According to police prosecution, the victims—Kwame Adu, also known as Ogee, Kwabena Sarfo, and Christian Obiri Yeboah, popularly called Kofi Yesu—were picked up by uniformed military officers over accusations of stealing an iPhone belonging to another civilian.

They were taken to the 4BN barracks and were allegedly beaten severely before being dumped at Danyame.

Police received information on the location of the lifeless bodies of the unidentified young men, and officers from the Suame Division picked up the bodies and deposited them at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.

The relatives of Kwame Adu and Kwabena Sarfo, who are now deceased, later traced and identified them after lodging complaints with the police about their whereabouts.

The surviving victim, Christian Obiri Yeboah, who was also located and found receiving treatment, narrated that they were allegedly beaten after they were taken to the barracks.

The officers, who have since been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder, appeared before the Suame District Court on Tuesday.

Police prosecutors pleaded with the court to remand them in prison custody while investigations continue.

But their lawyers argued otherwise, insisting that they should be remanded in the custody of the Military Police.

The presiding judge remanded the accused into Military Police custody. Relatives of the deceased, who were in court, continue to call for justice.

The officers will be in Military Police custody until the next adjourned date which is April, 22, 2025.
