The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has charged Ghanaians to consider a vote against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as communal labour.
According to the party, Ghanaians must therefore come out in their numbers on December 7 in unison and uproot the corruption tree at the Jubilee House.
Ghanaian voters, the NDC said, must in memory and in honour of former President Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, kick the NPP government out and send the message that the state plunder is enough.
Addressing the gathering of supporters who joined the probity and accountability march in Accra yesterday, General Secretary of the party Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated that Ghanaians cannot continue to live under the ‘family and friends’ government.
He said, “This President has only enriched his family since he took over the seat. The only people gaining wealth are people with Kyebi names and people with names such as Ofori Atta, Otchere Darko and Addo Danquah.”
“This nepotism cannot be allowed to continue. Some Ghanaians are now changing their names just to secure jobs, the problem is not our names, it is with bad leadership and Akufo-Addo must go. Voting them out is communal labour and we must deliver it.”
NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, in his address stated that the Electoral Commission (EC) will have no option than to declare former President John Dramani Mahama winner of the December elections after he is elected.
Ghanaians, he said, are ready to change and stressed that change is indeed coming adding, “I have been in politics for years and I can smell victory coming. I can smell John Mahama victory coming.”
“And for the electoral commission, you will have the most difficult and unpleasant duty of declaring John Mahama as President-elect.”
Mr. Ampofo cautioned that the NDC will not agree to anything with respect to channeling of results to the EC headquarters that has been agreed upon at IPAC.
The party, he said, has picked up signals about some new moves on how the EC expects results to be channeled to its headquarters.
The protest, which was in collaboration with other political parties and some Civil Society Organisations was rescheduled to Monday, November 30, 2020, from the initial date of Thursday 26th November 2020.
Most of the protestors, clad in red and black marched through some principal streets in Accra from the Obra Spot.
The route for the March included Farisco Traffic light, Accra Poly road through the Ghana Law School road and to Rawlings Circle, and finally to the Osekan Park. Some notable persons at the protest included the former Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, NDC Communication Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, Deputy NDC National Youth Organizer, Edem Agbana; NDC’s National Organizer, Joshua Akamba, NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
