A woman and her two children have been tragically murdered in Bawku after gunmen who were reportedly dressed in military uniforms stormed their residence and shot them.
The incident occurred in Tensungo, a few metres from a military camp in the Bawku township. Though it is not clear what provoked this incident, however, it is reported to be linked with the ongoing chieftaincy conflict in the area.
This has tallied the total number of deaths in the area since the re-emergence of the conflict in October 2024 to 45 people.
The last incident was on January 25, when a 13-year-old boy was killed around the same spot of the Bawku township.
This has intensified tension in the area after two weeks of relative calm.
Assemblymember for the Tensungo Electoral Area, Mohammed Saani confirmed the incident to Citi News, stating that the bodies have been deposited at the morgue after a doctor’s confirmation.
“Around 2am this morning, a gunman entered a house and killed a woman and her two children, and the incident was reported to me, and I informed the police, and the military also came, and we took the bodies to the hospital for confirmation.
“When I got to the residence, the family was alleging that the gunman was in uniform, and they believed he will be back to commit more atrocities.”
