Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has pledged to fully fund the reconstruction of the Adum BlueLight section of Kumasi’s Central Business District, which was recently destroyed by fire—pending approval from the Asantehene and city authorities.

The former Food and Agriculture Minister made the announcement during a visit to the market, where he also donated GHS 300,000 to affected traders.

The fire, which occurred on Friday, March 21, caused extensive property damage, leaving many traders struggling to resume operations.

In the absence of official clearance for reconstruction, some traders have erected temporary structures to continue their businesses.

Mr. Acheampong said he will consult with the Asantehene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, and other local authorities to seek approval for the project.

“Coming here today, you will see that they have started building, but the structures are very weak, yet they are supporting it with block work. But these are not stable. I want to engage the Otumfuo, who is out of the country, and if he permits, also the assembly permits, we want to rebuild this structure for them in 12 months.

“We will put in a very strong infrastructure, and then we will clean the front, put up some stores so that the traders here can have some normalcy to their lives.”
