Mr Samuel OkudzetoAblakwa, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has been appointed the Chairman of Parliament’s Assurance Committee.
This follows Parliament’s formation of several key committees, announced in an official report made available to MPs on the Floor of the House on Tuesday.
The Assurance Committee, which MrAblakwa chairs, had been tasked with ensuring that the Government fulfilled its promises and commitments made to Parliament and the public.
The Committee would also play a critical role in holding the executive accountable and ensuring transparency in governance.
Parliament has also constituted the Ethics and Standards Committee as well as Ways and Means Committee, to be chaired by Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Asokwa.
The Ethics and Standards, Ways and Means Committees would be charged with maintaining the integrity and efficiency of parliamentary proceedings, the report said.
“The Ethics Committee will be responsible for overseeing the conduct of MPs and ensuring adherence to ethical standards. This committee aims to uphold the dignity and reputation of the legislative body by addressing any breaches of conduct and implementing necessary disciplinary measures,” it said.
Parliament also constituted the Economy and Development Committee and the Backbenchers Committee.
