Ace Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has to work extra hard to win the 2024 general elections.
This he said would be necessary if the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) elects Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate.
Dr. Bawumia and some eight others are vying to lead the NPP into the crucial 2024 polls.
The NPP is currently heading for a congress to water down the number of candidates in a special delegate’s conference slated for August 26th.
Already, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of NPP is in a crunch meeting following a petition to the party leadership by nine of the aspirants.
The nine are demanding a centralized system of voting for the delegates conference.
They say plans to allow only 900 delegates to vote at the regional level do not sit well with them.
All nine aspirants or their representatives are present at this meeting where a final decision is expected to be taken.
But the Fourth Estate Editor-In-Chief in a tweet insists John Dramani Mahama will have a tough time at victory if the NPP’s conference settles on Dr. Bawumia as the party’s presidential candidate.
“The grounds are fertile for an NDC victory in 2024. However, if Dr. Bawumia wins the NPP primaries, some important dynamics will change and the NDC must work extra hard to win.”
According to the former Joy FM investigative journalist the odds still favour John Dramani Mahama.
“…The odds still favour the NDC, but any form complacency will result in an upset.”
