The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, has urged Ghanaians to continue to adhere to coronavirus protocols as active cases begin to drop.
Speaking to Citi News, Dr. Kuma-Aboagye said, “the best armour we have is adherence to the protocols.”
“We expect that if adherence is maintained and if people take their vaccines, we should see a downward trend,” he added.
The Ghana Health Service’s boss also attributed the current dip in the number of Covid-19 active cases to the government’s vaccination drive.
The current active case count stands at 4,358.
The Service is yet to provide an update on the number of persons vaccinated after the most recent round of vaccinations.
The vaccination took place in 43 districts, and Dr. Kuma-Aboagye said it “has led to a reduction of cases in Ashanti and Greater Accra [regions].”
In addition to the vaccinations, he said contact tracing has also been intensified.
“We scaled up case management. We scaled up our surveillance generally and a lot of risk communication to ensure that adherence to the protocols is done, especially at the workplace,” he added.
Cumulatively, Ghana has recorded 124,404 cases of the virus with 1,111 deaths.
As far as the vaccination is concerned, Ghana has 1.2 million Moderna vaccines it received from the US government on September 4, 2021.
The country is expecting an additional 1.3 million Pfizer vaccines by the end of September 2021.
Ghana has already made use of 177,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine it received recently.
Overall, Ghana has received a little over 3.2 million vaccines since February 2021.
