President Akufo-Addo has paid a courtesy call on Pope Francis at Vatican City State in Rome.
The visit on Saturday, 22nd July 2023 was part of President Akufo-Addo 4-day official visit to Italy.
“I paid a courtesy call on Pope Francis, the Head of the Catholic Church, the Bishop of Rome and Sovereign of the Vatican City State, at the Vatican, in Rome.

“Since his pontification in 2013, His Holiness, Pope Francis, has promoted fairness and equality amongst nations, and also preached against discrimination and exploitation,” he noted.
President Akufo-Addo was also taken on a tour of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences at the Vatican by its Chancellor, a Ghanaian, Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson.

Cardinal Appiaj Turkson has served in this position since 2022.
The visit was aimed at Ghana strengthening diplomatic relations with the Vatican.
