President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has eulogized the late Enoch Teye (E.T.) Mensah, a former member of the Council of State, as a cherished friend and a dedicated patriot.

In a poignant tribute at the final funeral rites held at the forecourt of the State House on Friday, the President expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of a man he described as warm, generous, and intellectually astute.

“He was a warm, generous, gregarious man with a keen intellect and wonderful sense of humour. In his element, you could find no better company, and he was a good source of advice for me as President of the Republic. I have lost a good friend, Ghana has lost a worthy patriot,” wrote President Akufo-Addo.

Reflecting on their enduring friendship, the President highlighted their shared entrance into Parliament in January 1997, despite being on different sides of the House.

He acknowledged E.T. Mensah’s significant contributions to Ghanaian politics, particularly in the development of Ghana football, as he served in various capacities in PNDC/NDC Governments.

The late E.T. Mensah, affectionately known as “E.T.” by all, represented the people of Ningo-Prampram as a Member of Parliament for five consecutive terms.

In 2021, during President Akufo-Addo’s second term, E.T. Mensah was elected to the esteemed position of Member of the Council of State.

President Akufo-Addo offered his heartfelt condolences to E.T. Mensah’s widow, Loriet, his children, family, the National Democratic Congress, the Chiefs and people of Ningo-Prampram, the Council of State, and the entire nation.

He concluded by praying for the repose of E.T. Mensah’s soul, expressing hope for a peaceful resting place until the Last Day of Resurrection.

“My wife, Rebecca, the First Lady, an indigene of Ningo, and I extend our deepest condolences to his widow, Loriet, his children, his family, the National Democratic Congress, the Chiefs and people of Ningo-Prampram, the Council of State, and the people of Ghana on this sad loss.

May the Good Lord bless his soul, and give him a peaceful place of abode in His Bosom until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again. Amen!!”
