President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has no intention of rolling back the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The government, he said, sees education as the best enabler for sustainable economic growth and transformation and will do more to improve it to serve more and better Ghanaian children.

Mr. Ofori-Atta disclosed this in his address on measures the government is taking to mitigate the economic downturn being experienced in the country.

There have been calls, including from Former President John Dramani Mahama, for the government to review some of its major policy initiatives including the Free SHS.

Following the Cabinet retreat, Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah disclosed all the 16 flagship programs of the government are up to be looked at.

According to him, the President has directed that the flagship programs be protected and fully implemented to ensure that the impact is achieved.

The President, he said, wants it done within the constraints of a fiscal framework the government is working with. I

He said, “All the 16 are up for discussion, none is off-limit. Only that the President has laid down the red line that we will not compromise on the fiscal consolidation agenda because our real problem over the years has been a year-on-year deficit going out of hand.”
