The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Ken Agyapong has said the former Trade Minister under the current administration, Alan Kyerematen will pose a challenge to the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general election.
This follows Mr. Alan Kyerematen’s withdrawal from the NPP’s flag bearer race citing alleged intimidation and abuse of his supporters among others and his decision to contest the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.
Speaking on Starr Chat on Thursday, October 5, 2023, Mr. Agyapong stated that although Osofo Kyiri Abosum was not a politician he had three percent in the last general election.
“Anybody who thinks Alan Kyerematen’s exit will not pose a challenge to the NPP, the person is not a good politician. You can call his bluff but when the time comes you will see what will happen.
“In the Ashanti region, they are just deceiving themselves, when they see Bawumia here, Mahama here, and Alan here, Alan will sweep the votes. When you look at Alan’s personality, people love him the way he is,” Mr. Agyapong stated.
He predicted that Alan Kyerematen could get 10 to 15 percent of votes in the 2024 general election.
“Because I am a grassroots man, Alan going independent is a big problem to us. I am telling you. I will speak the truth and nothing else. Anybody who says Alan is not relevant in the NPP so he should go means that person doesn’t like the party,” the Assin Central MP stated.
