Electoral Fraud, Chaos in NPP Akuapem North: Over-ambitious Sammy Awuku cited

An injunction has been served on the Akuapem North Constituency elections for polling station and electoral area coordinators following a series of electoral infractions, fraud, and violence allegedly orchestrated by the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku.

The Women’s Organiser for the constituency, Awo Yaa Boatemaa says some party members and executives have been threatened by suspected National Security operatives hired by Sammy Awuku to intimidate them at the polls.

She told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Okay Fm this morning that these National Security operatives were planted at various polls to counteract any objections from party executives and the election committee to the contest of some disqualified aspirants in the constituency. According to her, the election committee flagged some one hundred and fifty ineligible candidates most of whom were assignees of Sammy Awuku.

Awo Yaa Boatemaa stressed that these personalities had caused unnecessary tension and political factions in the constituency given that Sammy Awuku’s interest is to contest the parliamentary primaries.

She added that the contest for the polling station and electoral area coordinator has completely been sacrificed for a grand agenda to frustrate the incumbent Member of Parliament, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei.

“The election has now been turned into a Sammy Awuku- Dokua contest. People are being threatened to vote for Sammy Awuku at the polls…and anyone who is known to have worked for Ama Dokua is doom,” she said.

Electoral Fraud and Machinations

A number of petitions from some aggrieved party people and the incumbent MP have been forwarded to the national head office of the NPP for redress.

Among several issues raised by them is an accusation of fraudulent manipulation of the 9-Member Election Committee tasked to supervise the election.

It is said that the Chairman of the Committee, Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang discarded a resolution passed by a majority of the committee in disqualifying some aspirants, and thereby opened the flood gate for several ineligible candidates to contest. The worse of this situation is that Mr.

Boateng Agyemang officiated an acclamation of these ineligible candidates when party executives attempted to injunct the process. Recalling a related incident, Kwame Nkrumah Tikese said, it was with Mr. Boateng Ageymang’s unsatisfactory supervision that caused an injunction to be served on the New Juabeng Constituency elections.

At the moment, an injunction has been served on the Akuapem North polls. The MP has also called on the President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the party leadership to intervene in this injustice and manipulations in the Akuapem North polling station and electoral area coordinators election.
