2021 BECE: Chief Imam demands publication of Chief Examiner’s report

The National Chief Imam, Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has called for the publication of the 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Chief Examination Reports.

He has expressed worry over the issues that have characterized the 2021 BECE conducted by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).

In a statement from the just-ended National Hilal Conference headed by the National Chief Imam, he called on the key stakeholders in education to address the concerns of the aggrieved students calling for a remark of their scripts.

“Conference wants to draw the attention of the government, the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES) and WAEC to the shocking and unaccepted 2021 BECE result released for which about 70% of the candidate are calling for a remark of their examination scripts.

“We, therefore, request for the immediate publication of Chief Examination’s Reports and a statement from WAEC explaining the wide gap in this year’s results compared to the previous years,” the statement demanded.

He continued that “the current situation has the potential of demoralizing students and parents and will further weaken their zeal for further studies.”

The Muslim Hilal Conference is responsible for advising the National Chief Imam and for that matter Muslims in Ghana on Ramadan moon issues.

The Conference advises when Muslims should start and when to end Ramadan. The Leader of the Conference is the National Chief Imam.

Hilal Conference is made up of all the Regional Chief Imams, Zongo Chiefs, and representatives from all the Muslim sectors.
