2022 budget laying the building blocks to recovery and hope – Abu Jinapor

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has stated that the 2022 Budget is a unique policy document laying the building blocks for recovery, hope and satisfying the aspiration of the Ghanaian people.

The budget, he said, is going to build an entrepreneurial nation where the youth would be supported to pursue business ideas to create massive jobs.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo and the government are the first to admit the challenges and difficulties the country is going through rising out of the COVID-19 pandemic but stressed the path for better times is being laid.

“What is important in times of challenges is for government to respond to its part of the social contract; the President Akufo-Addo administration is going to respond to its part of the social contract,” he stated.

Contributing to the debate on the 2022 Budget in Parliament, the Lands Minister argued a careful examination of the budget will reveal the components that respond to the needs and aspirations of the Ghanaian.

He averred that one of the interventions of the budget is the initiative to address the massive youth unemployment in the country arising out of years of inaction and the COVID pandemic.

Mr. Abu Jinapor noted that President Akufo-Addo has the plan to resolve the unemployment situation in the country and is more than willing to stand by her people in this time of difficulty.

According to him, all the interventions that the NPP administration has unleashed namely NABCO, Planting for Food and Jobs, One-District-One Factory are contributing to the creation of employment for the Ghanaian people.

He said, “The use of these interventions demonstrates that President Akufo-Addo and his government have the ability to resolve the unemployment situation in our country.”

“What President Akufo-Addo is telling the youth of this country, the young men and women, YouStart… You start something and whatever idea you have, get on with it.”

“If you want to build a business YouStart; if you want to get into IT, YouStart; if you want to get into agriculture, YouStart.”

“Government this year in this budget in 2022 is going to make provision of GH¢1 billion of counterpart funding, source funding from World Bank and source funding from the commercial banks,” he added.

He pledged that the government is going to give the youth a pool of resources to create their own enterprises and businesses to create jobs and unleash prosperity for the youth.

He averred that the President, under the Free SHS policy has already put 1.2 million Ghanaians in school with advanced proposals to make TVET a part of the Free SHS.

He disclosed that GH¢2.3 billion has been committed on the Free SHS alone and stressed the government is investing in the youth and human capital of the country.
