Four MPs of the Majority group in Parliament are set to table a Private Members Motion requesting a bi-partisan Committee to investigate circumstances surrounding the death of former President John Evans Atta Mills.
Sponsors of the Motion include Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh; 2nd Deputy Majority Whip and MP for Tolon, Habib Iddrissu; MP for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku; and MP for Tema Central, Yves Nii Noi Hanson-Nortey.
The Motion reads: “That, this Honourable House constitutes a bi-partisan committee; “To unravel the unending mystery surrounding the death of late President Mills which sad event occurred on 24th July, 2012.”
The move appears to be a direct response to recent calls by Koku Anyidoho, founder of the Atta Mills.
The former Head of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson under the President Atta Mills administration, has lately launched a campaign seeking state inquest into the death of the former President and formally petitioned the police over the matter.
The call, he said, is premised on the need to clear his name and save his reputation.
He said, “Also I am widely accused of having a hand in the death of late President John Atta Mills, which sad event occurred on 24th July, 2012,”
“In view of this, I take the opportunity to request for an official inquest into the death of the late President Atta Mills in order to clear my name and save my reputation,” the petition said.
Koku, also in a series of tweets, demanded an inquest and insisted he is an accomplished citizen of Ghana with all rights accruing to him under the 1992 Constitution of the Republic.
He tweeted, “After 10 years of his death, I am respectfully requesting for an inquest into the death of President John Evans Atta-Mills. God bless our Homeland Ghana.”
And dared former President John Dramani Mahama to an open debate and urged Ghanaians to openly ask for an inquest into the death of President Mills and added, “I beg you in the name of God Almighty.
