The Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, Daniel Botwe has appointed a five member committee to ascertain the cause of the recent Kejetia Market fire.
The Members are: Professor Theophilus Adjei-Kumi – Chairman Department of Construction Technology and Management, KNUST, Francis Koffie, ESQ – Member Private legal Practitioner, Managing Director, M/S Koffie & Partners,
Law Conclave, Kumasi and Mr. Kofi Ampong – Member Valuer/Property Manager, Real Estate Consultant.
The others are Mr. Daniel Kwaku Denteh – Member Deputy Director General of National Disaster Management Organization in charge of Finance and Administration and Mrs. Emelia Ayebeng Botchway – Member/Secretary
Regional Coordinating Director Regional Coordinating Council, Ashanti Region.
The Committee is to make a full, faithful and impartial inquiry into the circumstances of, and establish the facts leading to, the fire outbreak at the Kumasi Kejetia Market on 15th March, 2023;
It is also to inquire into any matters incidental or reasonably related to the cause of the fire outbreak at the Kumasi Kejetia Market abd to Inquire into the efficient operation, maintenance and management of the Kumasi Kejetia Market.
The Committee is also tasked to submit within three weeks of its inauguration, its report to the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development and Give reasons for its findings and make recommendations with a view to preventing such disasters and ensuring efficient operation and management of the Kumasi Kejetia Market.
