The Ministry of Finance has denied claims that Ghana has missed the deadline for the second tranche of the US$3 billion IMF bailout package due to external debt restructuring delays.
The Ministry released a statement on Friday (10 November) clarifying that there was no specific deadline for the disbursement of the second tranche of the IMF funds and that the reports stating otherwise were misleading.
The statement said, “The attention of the Ministry of Finance has been drawn to above titled misleading publication on Myjoyonline, about Ghana missing a purported deadline of 1 November, 2023, for the disbursement of the second tranche of International Monetary (IMF) Funds.”
“The Ministry thus wishes to set the record straight: a. There is no 1 November, 2023 timeline for disbursement of the second tranche of the IMF funds.”
The statement further added that no deadline had been set by the IMF for the second tranche disbursement, which would take place only after the IMF executive board approves the first review.
